Mick Jagger totally delivered with not one, not two, but FOUR amazing performances when he hosted Saturday Night Live on May 19. He teamed up with Arcade Fire to give a high energy rendition of the Rolling Stones hit, ‘The Last Time,” and got political with a blues tune, “Tea Party,” he wrote about the upcoming presidential election and performed with Jeff Beck.

And the 68-year-old rocker really brought his A-game with the Rolling Stones medley he jammed out with the Foo Fighters. This guy just gets better with age!

But it was his heartfelt performance of the classic, “She’s A Rainbow,” with Arcade Fire that really stole the show, as it marked SNL favorite Kristen Wiig‘s final appearance as a regular cast member.

The other has a beautiful voice and hasn’t been afraid all year long of tacking such major artists as Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She’s responsible for the single most memorable American Idol performance of the season.

Either would be a worthy champion. Only one will wear the crown next Thursday night.

Protect skin with sunscreen, but use lightly

New Delhi, May 20 : It’s good to apply sunscreen before you step out of home in the scorching sun. But don’t use it too frequently or in large dabs, say experts after a recent research indicated that sunscreen use can increase the risk of skin cancer.

“Sunscreen has its after-effects as the cream has harsh chemicals that can affect the body if not applied properly,” Bangalore-based dermatologist Parveen Khurana told IANS.

“Zinc oxide, the must-have ingredient in sunscreens, can have harmful effects on the body if used frequently. Most girls today apply sunscreen every time they walk out from shade. This is a major concern,” added Khurana.

According to research carried out at Missouri University of Science and Technology, one of the world’s leading technological research universities, some compounds found in sunscreen can increase the rate of skin cancer if exposed to light.

“It is true that overexposure to sunlight without sunscreen can cause sunburns, discolouration and irritation. But we should not forget the fact that body also needs vitamin D for strengthening of bones,” said skin expert Krishna Kumar.

“So apart from skin cancer, sunscreens can also reduce vitamin D production by as much as 97.5 to 99.9 percent. And interfering with your body’s production of vitamin D may have dire health consequences,” added Kumar.

Though many fear sun exposure, Kumar says it is important to spend some time in the sun sans sunscreen.

“Regular sun exposure can be harmful, but one can try sporadic sun exposure as getting into direct contact of sun also decreases the risk of melanoma (a more deadly form of skin cancer). So safe sun exposure, without any litmus shield like sunscreen, can help in getting away from skin cancer as well,” he added.

So use sunscreen, but in a proper way, advise doctors.

Several beauty brands have recently launched different sunscreen-based creams with higher SPF (sun protection factor) count.

But according to Mumbai-based dermatologist Swati Srivastava, who works at wellness chain VLCC, there’s hardly any difference in a sunscreen with an SPF count of 15 or 50.

“For Indian skin, any sunscreen containing SPF 15 and above is preferred. The difference between SPF 15 and 50 is minimal. Sunscreens with higher SPF ratings block slightly more UVB rays, but none offers 100 percent protection,” she said.

So how to pick the best sunscreen?

“For dry skin, it is always advisable to use cream-based sunscreen. While in the case of oily skin, oil-free sunscreen lotion is preferred. For the people who live in the tropical areas, SPF 50 is recommended for outdoor use,” said Chytra V. Anand, cosmetologist, Kosmoderma Skin and Laser Clinic, Bangalore.

There’s no right age to apply sunscreen.

“There is no particular age group to apply SPF. In fact even kids are being recommended to use sunscreen to avoid sun damage at an early stage. Studies have shown that 90 percent of ageing is caused by sun damage. So sunscreen is the best anti-ageing cream.

“However, kids can use sunscreens with SPF 15-20 to avoid damage,” added Anand. (IANS)

Mark Zuckerberg Marries Longtime Girlfriend

(CNN) — Facebook co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg married longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan on Saturday.

The news was announced (where else?) on Facebook, just one day after the company went public.

Zuckerberg, 28, posted a simple wedding photograph, showing the couple against a backdrop of plants and small lights on a string.

Both he and Chan also updated their relationship status to “married.”

He ditched his trademark hoodie, appearing in a dark suit and tie, while she wore a sleeveless white wedding dress with lace.

Zuckerberg and Chan met during his sophomore year at Harvard University, where Zuckerberg first nursed Facebook as a dorm-room project.

Chan graduated this year from medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, according to her Facebook page.

The marriage comes just one day after the company, based in California, made its market debut.

Its initial public offering was the biggest opening ever for a tech company and the third-largest IPO in U.S. history, behind only Visa and General Motors.

Pregnancy: Eating For Two Can Increase Risk For Diabetes and High Blood Pressure

Researchers are saying that piling on the cals during pregnancy increases the chance for diabetes and high blood pressure. Basically, the data implies this: Don’t do what Jessica Simpson did!

You don’t have to watch TLC’s new show Obese & Pregnant to know that mamas-to-be should watch what they’re eating. Now, experts are saying that expectant moms should stick to healthy diets to reduce risks of having complications for themselves and for the new baby.

Researchers from Queen Mary, University of London said weight management techniques have no negative effects on pregnant women and their babies, and that it also prevented complications like diabetes, high blood pressure and premature birth.

The British study involved 44 trials with 7,278 women. Their study, published on BMJ.com, also says that eating for two during pregnancy could leave the women with weight problems for life.

The study also said that babies will also benefit because they’ll be less likely to get stuck in the birth canal.

In an ABC News report, nearly half of U.S. women who are of child-bearing age are obese.

Weight gain during pregnancy is normal, but obese women especially should gain no more than 15 pounds. Women of normal weight can gain up to thirty, said to the report.

Baron Cohen Takes No Prisoners As ‘The Dictator’

(CNN) — That which does not kill us only makes us laugh.

That seems to be the governing principle in this outrageously offensive, but ridiculously funny, effort from agent provocateur Sacha Baron Cohen.

The “Borat” star has now exhausted the characters he introduced in “Da Ali G Show” and presumably worn out his welcome as a celebrity interviewer.

In “The Dictator,” his third and most outwardly conventional Hollywood vehicle, he introduces us to one “General Admiral Aladeen,” a North African despot who resembles Libya’s Colonel Moammar Gadhafi, but with an Osama bin Laden beard, and something of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s knack for international diplomacy. (The film is dedicated to the memory of the late Kim Jong Il.)

Summoned to the United Nations to explain his country’s mushrooming nuclear weapons program, Aladeen plans to throw down the gauntlet, but instead he’s abducted from his hotel room and only escapes assassination by the skin of his teeth. This close shave leaves him unrecognizably clean shaven, alone and anonymous on the streets of New York, supplanted by an idiot double under the control of his conniving uncle (played by Ben Kingsley). Mistaken for a political refugee by the well-meaning manager of a vegan cooperative grocery store (played by Anna Faris), Aladeen embarks on a new career in the service industry until he can get his country back.

There’s nothing very original in this scenario, except perhaps for the unthinking brutality of the hero. Baron Cohen and his regular collaborator director Larry Charles scarcely concern themselves putting the mechanics of the plot in place. As a piece of storytelling “The Dictator” is perfunctory to the point of disdain. In their previous efforts these merry pranksters have operated on the margins of documentary, improvising recklessly with the unpredictable dynamics of volatile situations and unsuspecting dupes.

Such mockery took cunning and courage, as well as brilliantly quick comic reflexes. At its best it exposed the venal hypocrisy, ignorance and prejudice lurking just beneath the surface of polite society. Perhaps sensing that they’re inherently on safer but also more sterile ground here, working with actors and from a script, they compensate with a barrage of bad taste and near-the-knuckle gags. There is something to offend just about everyone: 9/11 jokes, rape jokes, race jokes, child abuse jokes, you name it.

A barking chauvinist bigot, Aladeen makes Borat look like a puppy dog. But he’s certainly bracing company, the scourge of political correctness and a walking litmus test of our commitment to free speech. We’ve seen plenty of taboo-busting comedies over the last few years, but this one really goes for the jugular. Lesbians, the disabled, the Chinese, several Hollywood stars, Muslims and Jews all have reasons to cringe. Baron Cohen is an equal opportunities agitator; he takes on everybody at once and dares you not to laugh.

How can you not, when Aladeen attempts to impersonate a Chinese-American tourist by pressing his fingers to his eyes and pronouncing his “r”s and “l”s, apparently convinced of his acting prowess after starring in several vanity projects back home in Wadiya. The joke is more sophisticated than it first appears when you consider that it’s performed by an English Jew, caricaturing a North African Muslim.

For all its crudity and occasional flatness, “The Dictator” is a satire that takes no prisoners and valuable for that reason. In his big climactic speech, even the irredeemable Aladeen rises to the occasion with a brilliant piece of political oratory that turns the tables on everything we think we know about today’s cultural jihad.

It’s a superbly cheeky cinematic coup worthy of another great English comedian, Charlie Chaplin.
